Creating incentives to prevent execution failures: an extension of VCG mechanism
نویسندگان
چکیده
When information or control in a multiagent system is private to the agents, they may misreport this information or refuse to execute an agreed outcome, in order to change the resulting end state of such a system to their benefit. In some domains this may result in an execution failure. We show that in such settings VCG mechanisms lose truthfulness, and that the utility of truthful agents can become negative when using VCG payments (i.e., VCG is not strongly individually rational). To deal with this problem, we introduce an extended payment structure which takes into account the actual execution of the promised outcome. We show that this extended mechanism can guarantee a nonnegative utility and is (i) incentive compatible in a Nash equilibrium, and (ii) incentive compatible in dominant strategies if and only if all agents can be verified during execution.

متن کاملAverage-case analysis of VCG with approximate resource allocation algorithms
The Vickrey-Clarke-Groves (VCG) mechanism offers a general technique for resource allocation with payments, ensuring allocative efficiency while eliciting truthful information about preferences. However, VCG relies on exact computation of an optimal allocation of resources, a problem which is often computationally intractable, and VCG that uses an approximate allocation algorithm no longer guar...
متن کاملX Mechanism Design for Mixed Ads
We propose a hybrid auction mechanism for sponsored search, where bidders can be truthful or not, and are accordingly treated differently. Our class of hybrid mechanisms give incentives for non-truthful bidders to bid truthfully, while behaving as a non-truthful auction if no bidders are truthful. Our motivation is that the Generalized Second Price (GSP) auction (the current mechanism of choice...
متن کاملWritten Preliminary Examination II VCG Redistribution Mechanisms
Mechanism design, originally a subfield of microeconomics that concerns implementing systemic good solutions to problems that involve multiple self-interested agents so as to align their incentives with the objectives of the system designer, is now becoming a standard tool in computer science as more and more computer-related systems and phenomena are understood as interactions between self-int...

The main purpose of this paper is to examine the relevance of Islamic microfinance in the light of ongoing erosion of confidence in the viability of current financial system, full of speculatory finance in the prevailing global financial market. For example, the sub-prime crisis of 2007-2008 in the US with its effects all over the world was mainly due to the inadequate market discipline which i...
